Our aim is to ensure that all unwanted dogs which come into our care should be found loving new homes, where a lifestyle, appropriate to their breed and temperament can be reasonably assured, once they are assessed as being suitable to be rehomed.
Step 1:
All prospective owners must be aged 18 or over.
Anyone wishing to adopt a dog from the Last Resort Dog Rescue must first complete our pre-adoption form. A copy of this form must be emailed or posted to admin and is also logged onto our database.
Upon receipt of this we will conduct a short telephone interview with you and discuss the application.
Step 2:
To ensure your home environment is suitable for the breed and nature of the dog you wish to adopt, and that the home and garden environment is compatible for keeping a dog, LRDR will undertake a home visit and interview with all prospective owners.
We will insist that all persons who will be living in the home with the adopted dog must be present.
We will require written permission from your council, housing association or landlord if you do not own your home.
In the event that you may have owned a dog previously, we may ask for references from your vet prior to adoption.
The decision of rehoming is made for the benefit of the dog in question and is at the discretion of LRDR.
We are unable to suggest or guarantee rehome approval until the home check is carried out.
Step 3:
Following a succesful home visit, and the availability of a suitable dog, prospective owners will be expected to travel to meet the dog. All persons who will be living with the rehomed dog are again required to attend. You will also have to bring any other dogs in your care with you for introduction. In some rare cases more than one introductory meeting may be needed,
As most of our dogs are being cared for by foster families a visit with any of our dogs is only by appointment and times are subject to the requirements of the environment where the dog is cared for.
We cannot guarantee that any dog featured on our forum will be suitable for a prospective owner The dogs currently in our care have differing needs and can only be matched to a new home once one of our volunteers has interviewed a prospective owner and carried out a successful home visit.
