All lovely, but the last but one is brilliant; Kam looks like he's having a fantastic time.

Hi,
Its been a long time since there was an update on Kam, he continues to improve.
He went to the vets the other day, and was a real gentleman! Just the usual annual appointment for a quick check up and needle.
Apparently he is a very fit, healthy man, could be anywhere between 8 and 12 years, good heart and only slight traces of arthritis in his rear end. He is going to need a dental clean up sometime, but not urgent.
We have had problems with his halti. Occasionally it will irritate him and he will rub his nose violently on the ground. This is compounded by his enthusiasm when playing football - sometimes he gets a ball on the nose so the tiny blood vessels will start to leak. So for the moment he is on a flat collar and it seems to make no difference to him except when he is close to heavy traffic when he is still a bit unsure of himself though he no longer tries to attack cars! We had a word with the vet about the nose and she told us that it is nothing to worry about. If there are any traces of leaking after enthusiastic play we just wipe it with warm salt water.
He is much better with other dogs now, particularly ones he sees regularly. Yesterday an unfamiliar Jack came up to him to say hello and his behavior was perfect! no sign of agression and although he showed slight concern when it went to sniff his rear end he was still a good boy.
The local walkers all know him now and know that we are trying to socialise him. We keep walking him close to them and their dogs and his behavior is improving.
At home he is the perfect dog. Very obedient, good with our two Jacks (though he sometimes tries to herd them) and he knows his place. He is good with visitors, though he barks at them when they arrive. This is a habit he has picked up from the Jacks.
He can count up to three and has become very much a creature of habit. You can almost set your watch by his hints for feeding or walking time.
Kam has gained a rather special place in our hearts and our home!

Latest update on Kam. He is progressing really well and is now allowed off lead for a run which he loves. He carries his football and then enjoys a kick about combined with training. He has learned to go down half way to running for his ball and again when he is on the way back to us with his ball. He is not the brightest spark with hide and seek and tends to wander aimlessly until he is pointed in the right direction. Yesterday he attended his first dog show. Until now he has been so reactive it wasnt possible but we went with the idea that we could leave if there was a problem but he was a star. There was only one little growl at another dog and we deliberately walked very close to other dogs and through the middle of several. We are very proud of how well he did and are going to try taking our two JRTs next time as well.

Well this has been an interesting weekend.
Those of you registered on this forum will know from the foster section we are temporarily fostering a 12 month old staffie called Pippin. We brought her home not knowing what Kam would make of another dog in the house due to the issues he has with other dogs but we have been absolutely amazed at the tolerance he has for this bouncy little girl who lacks socialization with other dogs. As long as she doesn't pester him too much and leaves his ball alone he is fine and almost appears to like her .
It has been a joy to watch them together and Blondie has taken some lovely photos which I will attempt to put on here (however photo bucket is fighting me) in the next day or two. The way Kam has reacted is a testament to how far our lovely tri colour Collie boy has come in the last two years.

I'm new to the forum and just read Kam's thread from start to finish. What a lovely story! And what a lucky boy he is to have landed safely on all four paws with you!

Thank you Kat but we are the lucky ones to have such a lovely old boy in the house. It is an honour to have been able to help him change from a frightened, dog agresssive, dirty, skinny dog into the handsome gentle, calm (under most circumstances) gentleman he is now.
